It is common for skin to become dry and irritated during the winter due to the cold air and low humidity levels stealing moisture from the skin. When the weather is dry and cold, it is important to keep the skin moisturized and soft. The following are a few easy tips you can follow to keep your skin healthy all winter.
Avoid Hot Water
When it comes to caring for your skin in the winter, avoid using hot water when washing your face and hands as hot water can strip your skin of essential oils and leave it red and irritated. Use lukewarm water when washing your face and hands, especially when you are in the shower. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, using cooler water to wash your skin is just as effective at removing germs compared to warm water.
Modify Your Skin Care Routine
Your skin does not act the same in the winter as it does in the summer; it is likely to be naturally drier in the colder months due to lower levels of humidity in the air. Many dermatologists recommend switching to gentle cleansers that won’t strip your skin of moisture in the winter as well as using cream-based moisturizers to help your skin stay healthy and hydrated. Not sure which cleanser or moisturizer may work for your skin this winter? Check with one of our board-certified dermatologists who can help guide you to products that may work for your skin.
Moisturizing Is Essential
One of the most important ways to care for your skin this winter is to moisturize on a daily basis. You might have to use a thicker facial moisturizer during the winter compared to the summer. Make sure you are moisturizing your whole body this winter especially after you take a shower. SCS CAN MEET ALL OF YOUR GENERAL AND COSMETIC DERMATOLOGY NEEDS
